Motherhood is at once the most exhilarating and exhausting experience, with its own perks that keep you going even when you’re crying out for 2 minutes of me-time. From exulting in the many firsts, first steps, first words, first interactions at school to so many other countless beautiful memories. Eyes go misty when you hear that you were much the same in terms of the fuss made for eating or the insistence of little hands wanting to do so many things themselves. Mummy main Karungi! (Mom, I will do it).
The challenge comes when you see traits in this mini-me that you know all too well were challenges for you in your childhood too, and perhaps something you still struggle with, you never fully overcame. Her shyness in an online class and meeting even known faces remind me of my own gawky childhood, most of which I spent buried in the fantasy world of books I used to love reading, be the Enid Blytons, Nancy Drew’s and the like.
I was shy in social interaction, something that I would say I still am to an extent even today. I have a small friends circle of genuine friends and enjoy my company fairly well. These are all good traits to have, no harm but that element of putting yourself out there with absolutely no self-consciousness; I want to help her to cultivate that in herself. And to be the role model she can look up to, I must model that behavior in myself too.

Hence my wanting to be a part of this initiative to write something small, my baby steps out of my comfort zone for my baby. Thanks, Namita, for giving me the opportunity. Thanks to all who read and like this; if we can put a smile on some faces by sharing a little of ourselves in these difficult times, that’s a lot. God Bless us all.
