Impressing Her Husband Turned Into Empowering Other Women: Arti’s Remarkable Journey from Homemaker to Homemade Entrepreneur

Hi there, fellow moms and women! I’m Arti, and I’m here to share my story of how I transformed from a Mumbai native with an MBA and corporate experience into a successful homemade food entrepreneur. My journey might just inspire you to chase your own dreams and find financial independence through your passions.

It all began when I got married. I had no prior cooking expertise, but I was determined to impress my husband with my culinary skills. Little did I know that this would become the starting point of an incredible entrepreneurial journey.

In 2016, with just ₹1000 in my pocket, I launched Arti’s Homemade (formerly Arti’s Jams and Sauces). My flagship product was a delectable Mango Jam, and from there, the company has grown exponentially. Today, we offer an extensive range of over 25 homemade jams, premixes, and sauces, catering to a customer base of more than 10,000 throughout India.

It wasn’t an easy path, though. In the initial years, I faced significant challenges – sourcing raw materials, ensuring minimal packaging breakage, and managing pick-up and delivery. I even spent my weekends personally delivering products across Bangalore. But these experiences taught me invaluable lessons in logistics, quality control, and customer service, which laid the foundation for my business’s growth.

Another hurdle was managing the short shelf life of our products and ensuring safe delivery without breakage. Through diligent trial and error, we’ve now reduced breakage to just 10%, a testament to our commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

One of our initial challenges was operating with zero marketing budget and my lack of knowledge in social media marketing. But we didn’t let that stop us. We relied on free marketing through Facebook groups and word-of-mouth from satisfied customers, which propelled us forward. This experience taught me the power of leveraging unconventional avenues to promote and sell products without financial investment. Today, while we have a dedicated marketing budget, those early days instilled a resourcefulness that continues to shape our approach to business growth.

Since 2018, Arti’s Homemade has been catering to customer demands by providing online classes on jams, sauces, and baking, including my self-taught expertise in breads, dry cakes, nut butters, breakfast cereal, and various energy bars. With over 70 classes conducted to date, my passion has not only enriched my baking skills but has also empowered more than 200 women, granting them financial independence through these educational opportunities.

And the journey doesn’t stop there! Arti’s Homemade is now expanding its horizons by introducing offline classes and launching an institute with a new identity. The institute’s mission is to not only facilitate financial independence but also instill self-confidence in individuals regarding their skills. This exciting venture is currently in progress, and more information will be unveiled in the upcoming months, promising a platform for personal and professional growth for all.

My own journey has been a tapestry of diverse experiences – from being a receptionist to transitioning into HR in Delhi, and finally settling in Bangalore since 2012. Throughout it all, reading fiction, food books, and indulging in old romantic movies have been my constant solace, weaving dreams and emotions in each page turned.

If you’re a fellow mom or woman looking to start your own entrepreneurial journey, I hope my story has inspired you to take that first step.
