Planning to go on a trip is fun and exciting, but it’s pretty challenging to travel with a baby. To enjoy the trip stress-free, listing and packing all the traveling essentials for babies is crucial. I am a mother, and earlier, traveling was a strain for me. I used to stuff my bags with each, and everything randomly required for the baby and sometimes had more irrelevant items than the necessary ones increasing the luggage weight.
With the time passing by, and after an experience of more than a year, I understood what’s more important and have come up with a list of travel essentials for babies that will make it a fun-filled trip for you and your baby. I hope this blog is going to help every new mother with their packing while traveling with babies.

List of Must-Have Essentials While Traveling With Babies
Diapers
Join our exclusive Parenting & Beyond facebook group for expert tips, heartfelt stories, and a supportive parenting community!
One of the top essentials while traveling with babies is Diapers. You need it anytime and anywhere. So keep enough diapers, as sometimes you may need more than one diaper in an hour. This is the primary travel essential for babies, and you will have to keep extra for the entire trip. I prefer Pampers or Mamy Poko Pants for my baby as I found them the best to date and after using almost every brand.
Baby Wet Wipes
Baby wipes are another required travel essentials for babies, and you need to have many of these. I always carry multiple packets of baby wipes with me while traveling. It helps me keep things clean and hygienic for my baby and a more accessible option while traveling since we cant not run to find a washbasin everywhere. Disposable Bags
While traveling with a baby, you need to dispose of so many things like used diapers, burp napkins, wet tissues, etc. So, don’t forget to carry enough disposable bags with you to make your journey mess-free. Carrying enough disposable bags makes our trip so much convenient that it has become essential while traveling with babies.
Swaddle Sleeping Bag/Sack
One of my favorite baby travel essentials is a baby swaddle/ sleeping bag. It makes it very comfortable for your baby to get an undisturbed good-night sleep no matter where you are. They don’t need any extra bedding and can sleep on their bed everywhere they go.
Baby Clothes, Shoes, Socks
I would recommend every mother to carry easy-to-wear and two to three extra comfortable clothes for the baby. Comfy clothes, shoes, and extra pair of socks will make it easier for you to have a hassle-free trip, and these are the must-have essentials while traveling with babies. Ensure you never run out of baby clothes as your little one may spoil the fresh one anytime.
Baby Carrier
Whenever I traveled with my infant, a baby carrier was among the top list of baby travel essentials since it makes it very easier for you to hold and carry your baby anywhere. Moreover, it is affordable and easy to take along with you, so don’t forget to have one while traveling, and you can enjoy your trip without getting sore arms with holding your baby, and carrying a stroller may be a costly and challenging affair.
Portable Crib or Travel Bassinet
Ensuring your baby has a comfortable and safe place to sleep is crucial. A compact, lightweight travel crib or bassinet can make all the difference in helping your little one get the rest they need. Look for options that are easy to set up and take down, and consider bringing familiar crib sheets and blankets from home.
Baby Toys
Bring along a few of your baby’s favorite toys and books to help keep them entertained and engaged during downtime or long travel periods. Look for compact, lightweight options that won’t take up too much space in your luggage. Consider toys that can be easily cleaned or disinfected, as well as books with sturdy pages that can withstand frequent handling.
Portable Sound Machine or White Noise App
A familiar sound can help soothe and calm your baby, especially in new environments. Download a white noise app or bring a portable sound machine to recreate a familiar sleeping environment. Look for machines with adjustable volume levels and a variety of sound options, such as ocean waves or gentle rain.
First-Aid Kit
I faced a situation when my son got a sudden fever while traveling, and I had no medication. He was all fine when we left and suddenly got a temperature in the middle of the journey. This made me realize always carry a general baby medication kit every time. It must have a baby thermometer, anti-allergic/fever/ acidity/cold/cough medicines. Make sure to check with your baby’s pediatrician and get baby-safe medicines recommendations from the doctor.
Teether/Pacifier
A teether or a pacifier was one of my best friends and vital baby travel essentials while traveling. It will make your baby busy for a while, and you can chill for some time, enjoying the trip. Carry a good quality, baby-safe teether and pacifier to get that extra time for you and to soothe your baby.
Sunscreen and Hat
Sunscreen and a hat are essentials for travel with baby. Protect your baby’s delicate skin from harmful UV rays with a baby-safe, broad-spectrum sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat. Look for sunscreens specifically formulated for infants and toddlers, with an SPF of 30 or higher. Choose a hat with a wide brim and a strap to keep it securely on your baby’s head.
Portable Changing Pad
A compact, waterproof changing pad can come in handy when changing your baby in less-than-ideal locations. Look for pads with a built-in pillow or cushion for added comfort, as well as raised edges to prevent rolling. Consider pads with a pocket or compartment for storing clean diapers and wipes.
Travel-Friendly Baby Gear
Travel-friendly baby gear are essentials for travel with baby. Consider investing in travel-friendly gear, such as a lightweight, compact baby carrier or a travel stroller that folds up small for easy storage and transport. Look for carriers with adjustable straps and breathable fabrics, and strollers with lockable wheels and a sturdy frame.
Familiar Comfort Items
Mosquito Repellent
The most terrible thing I faced while traveling with my baby was mosquito bites that turned into irritating rashes and bothered my baby a lot. I never forget to carry a good and baby-safe mosquito repellent. It’s a vital baby’s travel essential as the baby’s skin is very delicate, and bug/mosquito bites are intolerable for them.
Tummy Roll-On
Though I could add it to First-Aid Kit, I would like you to focus more on this incredible product, so adding it separately. Easy tummy roll-on is helping my baby since he was born. It benefits from his stomach aches and acidity or difficulty while pooping. It has become my favorite, and I never forget to carry it along even when I go out for an hour. I am using Mamaearth tummy roll-on, which is a perfect solution for your baby’s tummy issues.
Handkerchief/Hand Towel
Along with wet wipes, Bibs, and clothing, cotton handkerchief or soft hand towels are must-have essentials while traveling with babies to drying up their skin. They are accomodating in case your baby vomits out, or any such thing happened while traveling. Keeping a hand towel will not take much of your space, so it is better to carry one or two along. Here’s what to keep in mind next time you travel with a toddler.
Snacks
If your baby is on solids, do not forget to carry his favorite snacks or whatever you feel like you should feed him during the travel. It is a hygenic option to take homemade food or snacks rather than buy packaged food from outside, especially for your babies. If your baby does not have a food-choice yet, it is advisable to carry fresh fruits or dry fruits like raisins or cranberries, which your little one can easily swallow.
Water Bottle & Sipper
Water Bottle and sipper are one of the must-have essentials while traveling with babies. It is always a good idea to carry along while you are traveling with your little one. Staying hydrated for babies is equally essential as it is for us. So, better you take it from home instead of buying a bottle from outside. And Always carry a glass or sipper, whatever you are comfortable with.
Tip on Essentials While Traveling With Babies
Here are some additional tips for traveling with babies that are not specifically related to products or essentials:
- Plan for extra time: Build in plenty of extra time for feedings, diaper changes, and general delays when traveling with a baby. Things will inevitably take longer than you expect.
- Do your research: Look into baby-friendly accommodations, restaurants, and activities at your destination. Call ahead to inquire about amenities like cribs, high chairs, etc.
- Stick to routines: As much as possible, try to maintain your baby’s regular sleep, feeding, and nap schedules while traveling. Familiar routines can help babies feel more comfortable.
- Pack light: Only bring the essentials for your baby to avoid overpacking and lugging around too much stuff.
- Use baby carriers: Baby carriers allow you to have your hands free and keep your baby close, which can be helpful during travel.
- Stay flexible: Be prepared for disruptions and unexpected situations. Having a flexible attitude can help reduce stress when things don’t go as planned.
- Take breaks: Build in rest stops and chances for your baby to get out of the carrier or stroller and move around.
- Ask for help: Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance from airline staff, hotel staff, or fellow travelers when you need an extra hand.
- Dress for easy access: Dress your baby in easy-to-remove clothing for quick diaper changes and feedings.
